Saudi Arabia and the Philippines are set to initiate ATA operations in 2024

The ICC has announced that Saudi Arabia and the Philippines will join the ATA Carnet International Guaranteeing Chain in 2024. This system, established in 1963, allows duty- and tax-free temporary admission of goods for up to a year. Saudi Arabia will start on June 1, 2024, and the Philippines on July 15, 2024. Their inclusion brings the total number of participating countries to 81.

The Federation of Saudi Chambers and the Philippines Chamber of Commerce and Industry have been approved to oversee ATA Carnet operations. Julian Kassum, ICC WCF Director, highlighted the benefits for businesses in both countries.

Starting from June 1, 2024, Saudi Customs will accept ATA Carnets for goods displayed at events, while the Philippines will apply it to a wider range of items from July 15, 2024.

Henk Wit, Chair of the World ATA Carnet Council, praised the advantages of having Saudi Arabia on board, particularly for exhibitions, and noted the potential for the Philippines to attract foreign investment.

ATA Carnets are recognized globally as customs documents for duty- and tax-free temporary imports. Administered by the ICC World Chambers Federation, they are facilitated through National Guaranteeing Associations.

With the 2024 Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games approaching, ATA Carnets will facilitate the temporary import of equipment across borders for athletes, media, and suppliers.
