The Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) have hosted a free online webinar, titled “Your Rights, Your Voice.” This timely initiative is designed to empower Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in Saudi Arabia by providing them with clear, practical guidance on how to protect and assert their rights in the workplace.
The webinar will deliver a step-by-step walkthrough, in Tagalog, on the process of filing a formal complaint—or grievance—within the Saudi labor court system. By simplifying the procedures, the session aims to remove the confusion and intimidation often associated with legal processes abroad. OFWs will learn how to properly prepare documents, what evidence is required, how hearings are conducted, and what to expect during mediation or arbitration.
Beyond technical instruction, the session will also feature real-life case examples, helping participants understand common issues faced by fellow OFWs—such as unpaid wages, contract violations, or unfair dismissal—and how these were resolved through the legal system.
Importantly, the webinar emphasizes that knowing one’s rights is the first step to protection. Many OFWs are hesitant to file complaints due to fear of employer retaliation or lack of familiarity with local laws. By conducting the session in Tagalog, POLO ensures that the information is accessible and easy to grasp, even for those without legal backgrounds.
The event also highlights the Philippine government’s ongoing commitment to providing free legal aid and embassy support for migrant workers. Representatives from POLO and the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) are expected to participate, offering additional resources for OFWs seeking assistance beyond the webinar.
