The General Directorate of Traffic in Saudi Arabia has recently implemented a 50% discount on accumulated traffic fines, much to the relief of citizens, residents, visitors, and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) citizens. This initiative, which applies to violations that occurred before April 18, 2024, is in line with the directives of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
This royal directive offers a fresh start for drivers who have been grappling with accumulated fines. However, it is important to note that certain violations committed after April 18, 2024, may disqualify individuals from receiving the discount. These violations include reckless driving, driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and excessive speeding.
The Saudi authorities have also warned the public against engaging with any links, phone calls, or websites that claim to offer alternative methods of payment. All transactions should be conducted through official channels to avoid falling victim to scams or fraudulent activities.
In cases where violations have been committed after the initiative launch date, Article 75 of the Traffic Law will apply, providing a standard 25% reduction in fines.
The 50% discount on accumulated traffic fines represents a significant step towards alleviating financial burdens for individuals who have been facing mounting fines. It also serves as a reminder of the Saudi government’s commitment to ensuring road safety while providing relief to drivers who have found themselves in challenging circumstances.
